En los restos arqueológicos de las Tablas de Senkreh, llamadas así por el lugar donde fueron descubiertas a orillas del Éufrates en 1854, se encontraron otras referencias literarias antiguas de esta civilización. En otros restos arqueológicos de Nuffar, existían tablas de multiplicar grabadas con caracteres cuneiformes, de números enteros dispuestos en columnas con valores superiores a 180 000.

Los primeros símbolos escritos de estas culturas, representaban los números con marcas en forma de cuña de acuerdo a su escritura cuneiforme. Barbara Williams y María del Carmen Jorge y Jorge han descubierto que el símbolo de la mano se corresponde con la fracción 3/5, así como el del corazón con 2/5 y el de la flecha con 1/2. El sistema matemático de estos aztecas contaba, además, con una unidad básica para medir las distancias y las áreas. Tomando como referencia la denominada “vara de tierra T”, una unidad estándar equivalente a 2,5 metros, las autoras del trabajo proponen que los glifos que incluían el símbolo de la mano indicarían una longitud 1,5 metros (3/5 de T), el del corazón 1 metro (2/5 de T) y la flecha a 1,25 metros (1/2 de T).

Los resultados de este trabajo aclaran alguno de los misterios de los cálculos matemáticos aztecas, mostrando, por ejemplo, que los cómputos con fracciones indígenas eran semejantes a nuestra forma moderna de convertir los minutos en horas, o las pulgadas en pies. Las científicas han denominado “aritmética de congruencia Acolhua” a este sistema matemático de aquellos aztecas que, hace ya 500 años, diponían de “diligentes contables” para gestionar sus fincas.

El control o test de alcoholemia (BAC) mide la concentración de alcohol en sangre. Se obtiene por medio de un porcentaje de la masa, la masa por el volumen o una combinación. Por ejemplo, un nivel de 0,2 de alcohol en sangre significa 0,02 g de alcohol por cada 100 mL de sangre.

En España actualmente la ley no permite la conducción si la tasa de alcoholemia supera los 0,5 gramos por litro en sangre o 0,25 mg por litro en aire espirado; excepto en los casos de conductores con menos de 2 años de carnet o los profesionales (camioneros y conductores de autobuses), en que la cifra es de 0,3 g/L del alcohol en sangre, que equivale a 0,15 mg/L en aire. Por encima de estas cifras, se aplican las sanciones correspondientes en el llamado carnet por puntos, que prevé la retirada de 4 puntos; o 6 puntos si se superan al valor límite en el doble.

"With an unfavorable economic environment, unemployment (in Spain) is intended to continue to grow from the current high levels, albeit at a slower pace," says the document. Thus, the Commission predicts an unemployment rate of 20.1% in 2010 and 20.2% in 2011 to begin to decline in 2012 to 19.2%.

The report recalls that Spain is the EU member country with the largest number of unemployed workers-about 4.75 million, and the highest unemployment rate.

It is also the only one of the six largest states of the EU, with Germany, France, UK, Italy and Poland, where unemployment increased in the last two months of last year.

Also, the prospects of finding a job worse than 2% in Spain in November and December over the same period last year, while they increased at overall EU level.

The report says more than 900,000 young people under 25 were unemployed in Spain last November, 43.6%, well above other countries levels.

On the positive side, Spain, together with Germany, the only one of the six largest EU states where labor supply increased in November and December, 1.1%, with more than 154,000 new jobs in relation to the two last months of 2009.

In the case of Germany, Europe's largest economy, the study noted that its labor market is in "good shape" thanks to lower unemployment, which stood at 6.7% at year end, and above all to an increase in labor supply.

For its part, France "continues to stabilize, slowly," although it has been a slight increase in their unemployment rate, which rose 9.7% between July and October, to 9.8% in the last two months of 2010.

People have always been fascinated by NUMBERS... Numbers are actually basic elements of mathematics used for counting, measuring, ranking, comparing quantities, and solving equations.

Today´s numbers, also called Hindu-Arabic numbers, are a combination of just 10 symbols or digits: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 0. These digits are introduced in Europe within the XII century by Leonardo Pisano [aka Fibonacci], an italian mathematician. He was educated in North Africa, where he learned and later carried to Italy the now popular Hindu-Arabic numerals.
